Construction projects fuel the need for FM in the GCC

June 2015

The facilities management industry has witnessed a boom in recent times as the industry is being estimated at AED 20 billion per annum by 2016. The rise stems from an AED 155 billion turnover in the construction sector for the year of 2015 owing to the thriving construction, hospitality and aviation sectors in Dubai.

Rapid construction developments, building infrastructure for airports, roadways, parking, ports and railways have resulted in never-before demand for the facility management and its allied industries. Cleaning equipment and services is the foundation of a successfully sustainable facility management company.

Reflective of this growth, Cityscape Global, the region’s largest real estate investment and development event, will feature a dedicated Facilities Management zone for the first time this year. The event will be held from 8 – 10 September at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

As the scale of investment in the construction sector continues to grow across the GCC, the approach to the cleaning industry would assume centre stage, beginning from the grassroots levels to end solutions. Sustainability should aid as the guiding principle behind the continuous search of innovations in the society.

According to Jamal Lootah, Chief Executive Officer, Imdaad, an estimated USD 103 billion worth of construction projects is likely to be awarded this year in the GCC brightening the prospects for the FM industry.
